Delhi to Kuala Lumpur…. clean streets!!!
August 13 2018
Landing in Kuala Lumpur, hopping on an air conditioned bus, driving on paved, neat roads lined with palm tree’s and flowers gave me the greatest feeling of relief and calmness. I didn’t realise how manic India actually was until I was out of the country. Even whilst out of India, we were all still coughing up black phlegm, and blowing our noses to reveal black snot, thanks to the Indian pollution and smog, but I didn’t care, I felt so calm being on that bus, really appreciating the well organised traffic, sad I know!
As we arrived in China Town, life got a bit more hectic but was not a patch on Delhi. In true style, not learning from any previous mistakes, we hadn’t booked accommodation. Instead we took by foot with our backpacks on our back, in hunt for a place, which I didn’t know at the time would be a place I would stay in on 3 separate occasions. We checked into the Travel Hub, in our own room at first before moving into a dorm, where we met Vinnie and Deano; who convinced Jon and Matt we should go to China, I really wasn’t keen, and was tempted to separate with the boys at this point, but got talked around. We were planning on seeing the Chinese New Year in HongKong and meeting up with the guys we’d met here.
Anyway, during our stay, we visited the Batu Caves, which is a Hindi temple set in limestone, which is said to be 400 million years old! There’s a ‘few’ steps to climb to get to the top, but was pretty impressive and worth a visit.
I witnessed a monkey drink a can of pepsi, I know that shouldn’t have been the most memorable thing about the trip, but I was impressed.
We checked out Penang, where we stayed in a place called Love Lane, which didn’t have aircon, so we all had very little sleep here, each trying to hog the fan. We checked out Penang Hill on a train, was pretty steep and a bit daunting in places, but had lovely views at the top.
Jimmy, the owner of our hostel actually drove us to the airport, when we were leaving. Our flight was at 6am to go to HongKong, and in true traveller style, that didn’t justify paying for another night in Jimmy’s pad, so we just slept in the airport.. we were shattered!!
